Wood County Habitat for Humanity
Wood County HFH dedicated one home in October and two homes in December, capping off what has been their most productive year since 2000. Seven families took ownership of their new Habitat homes in 2011. All three homes that were completed in the last quarter were Energy Star rated homes. Two of those homes were built with Structurally Insulated Panels.
The Lowe's Heroes program adopted Wood County HFH as their local project in 2011. Both Lowe's stores in Wood County along with the one in Marietta, Ohio, sent employees to work on the David & Tabitha Murphy home in September. All three store managers were able to attend the dedication in October and presented the Murphys with a gift from Lowe's.
Alpha Delta Kappa - Pi Chapter, a teachers' sorority, has adopted Habitat families as part of their community outreach. At each house dedication, they present the children of the family with a set of age-appropriate books. One of their missions is to instill the joy of reading in children. The books are presented in a handmade basket provided by the Mid-Ohio Valley Basketweavers Guild.
