Habitat for Humanity of Kanawha & Putnam County
North Hills Drive Phase 2 – Utilities and sewers have been installed on HFHKP's newest development of 24 lots. Weather delays have pushed back the project completion until April.
2011 was a banner year for property donations. Four existing houses and three lots were donated and two more lots in the works. With the completion of North Hills Drive Phase 2, HFHKP will have more than 30 lots on which to build.
The ReStore continues to increase its sales exponentially: Sales in the first half of this fiscal year topped $350,000.

The National Paint & Coating Association estimates that every American household contains 3 cans of left-over latex paint. There are 106,254 households in Kanawha and Putnam County, which means that just from residential use there are approximately 318,762 gallons of left-over paint in our area. Until now the only responsible option for dealing with left-over paint was to dry it and dispose of the formed solid in our local landfills - a slow and environmentally unfriendly solution. Now there is a better option!
The Habitat for Humanity ReStore has developed a latex paint recycling program, funded by a grant from the Sustainable Kanawha Valley Initiative, called Mix It Up. This program is providing an economic and environmental solution to a very common problem. By purchasing the proper equipment, the ReStore can now blend left-over latex paint and produce new 1 and 5 gallon products. Donated latex paint is divided by type (interior or exterior) and sheen (flat, eggshell, satin, semi-gloss); strained, bulked, mixed, and large quantities of neutral colors are created. The new paint is sold to ReStore shoppers and the proceeds are used to fund the construction of Habitat homes.
Paint donations may be dropped off during regular business hours. Only LATEX paint will be accepted and the label on the can must be attached and readable. The ReStore does not have the proper permits or safety equipment to deal with oil-based, spray paint, stain, epoxy or thinners. The ReStore is open Monday – Saturday from 9:00 AM – 6:00 PM.
