Huntington Area HFH
Celebrating 20 years of building hope, building homes for families in our community
Huntington Area Habitat for Humanity's 71st house
was built in partnership with the Cabell County Career Technology Center (CCCTC)
and the Cabell County Board of Education (CCBOE).
Students from the CCCTC built the house from start
to finish. Both high school and adult students from all of the center's programs
received classroom training, and then applied those skills in construction of
the project. Interior design students worked with the partner family to select
colors and coordinate materials inside the house. HVAC students worked on
heating cooling systems, and the building construction classes helped put the
structure together.
Because of the unique nature of this project, this site was limited to students
from the CCCTC. The dedication for the 71st Habitat house was held on May 25.
Our affiliate’s 72nd house was built in loving
memory of the late Rev. Mark McCalla.
Pastor McCalla, the former minister at Highlawn Presbyterian Church, had a hope
of one day building a home for Habitat for Humanity. Even though that day never
came for him, the vision he had has became a reality.
Volunteers from several local churches (Highlawn Presbyterian, First
Presbyterian, Enslow Park Presbyterian and Highlawn Baptist) came together to
work on the home. The dedication for our 72nd Habitat home was held in April
2010.
Our 73rd Habitat home is currently under
construction, and the ground breaking for our 74th home is planned for Mid-June.
